This isn’t a rocket-science post, but it has been so helpful for us this summer. On our mornings when we are headed out of the door early, having these pre-portioned smoothie kits in the the freezer ready to go keep us from eating too many granola bars or stopping for a bagel (… or donut) every morning. It took just minutes to put together with fruit that was already frozen + some sliced bananas. We grab one out of the freezer put it in the blender, add water (me), OJ (Emma) or milk (Mike) + peanut butter or even some greens.
I am always throwing fruit in the freezer that is about to over-ripen or I know we won’t get to before it does – berries, bananas, peaches. They can be a lifesaver in the freezer when we need something healthy and haven’t been to the store.
I put them in these clear plastic cups because they are perfect for using on the go. If we use them at home, we rinse and use again. I have been moving away from plastic, but gosh, they work great for this. The paper coffee cups or paper to-go containers would work just as well… though the straw is nice in the plastic. I know, another big no-no. However, we wouldn’t think twice about this same packaging if we had ordered it from a smoothie shop. Somehow there is more guilt at home!
