Summer Garden Party

I hosted a birthday lunch for Laurie, my right-hand helper, who handles a lot of the business logistics and customer communications. It was a gorgeous early summer day, perfect for sitting outside.

I used a tablecloth from a collection a couple of years ago, then mixed in our Seagrass Chargers and Block Print Napkins.

I wrapped her gift using our new Cottage Wrapping Papers (here).

I kept the menu very simple and it was a breeze to prep. I think we often overcomplicate entertaining and make it harder than it needs to be. I made the sugared scones in the morning, prepped everything for the pasta before everyone arrived – and that was it. I was tempted to also make a salad, or grill chicken to go with the pasta, but I just reminded myself that simpler was best, and it really was.

I have made a DIY version of the Barefoot Contessa’s Lemon Fusilli Pasta before, but had never followed the directions exactly – mistake. I followed them to a “T” for this lunch and it was unbelievable. Can’t wait to make for dinner sometime soon. For dessert, I made scones topped with Sparkling Sanding Sugar for added sweetness and crunch, then served with Mascarpone Whipped Cream and local Strawberries we had picked the day before. Everything was simple, delicious, and fresh.
