My Real Life Spring & Summer Closet Staples

I do not like to shop. Is that surprising? I do like to look cute and I love having a closet full of timeless, mix-and-match staples to put together looks, but I do not love browsing the shops – in person or online. I think it is because I have a pretty strong sense of personal style, which I rarely come across. Because most clothing companies are reliant on creating trends, I don’t find too many that have classics you can keep in your closet for years and years. Which is what I do. I try not to think of my style as boring… but more as timeless.

Linen Midi Column Dress (Navy & Stripes) | Cashmere Cardigan (such good quality and price, I have several colors) | Cotton Cardigan (I have in ivory) | Linen Button-up Shirts | White Tiered Skirt Splurge & Steal | Woven Flats | Linen Shirt Dress | Jeans | Linen Tanks | Sleeveless Linen Dresses – I have in 5+ colors and wear all of the time | Leather Sandal Slides | Platform Espadrilles | T-Strap Leather Sandals | Birkenstocks | My All-Time-Favorite Sunglasses | Wedge Heels | Lavender Double-Faced Wrap

I wear the same things for years. It seems almost faux pas to say! But I do. I guess what I have is a capsule wardrobe, but I don’t think of it that way – that is a trend, too, right? I just like things that aren’t going to go out of style the next year, and things that require a little styling to look pulled together.

I make an effort to build on my closet staples every year.  I add a new shoe, fresh pair of jeans (who can keep up with the new styles – it is inevitable each season we’ll need a new pair to make everything else feel current), and maybe a new dress or top each season.

Materials

In the past 10 years, I have gravitated mostly toward natural materials – linen, cotton and wool/cashmere. Besides some workout gear (which I would love to find an alternative for), I don’t love anything synthetic on my skin. I love cotton t-shirts, jeans, linen dresses, leather shoes, cashmere cardigans, cotton sweaters and boring button-downs.

These are favorites I bought last year, plus a couple of new items I’ve mixed for spring and summer. I bought most of these items in preparation for our trip to Italy in July when it was 100+ degrees. I needed breezy dresses, comfy sandals, but I wanted to feel slightly chic. I packed light and repeat wore everything, dressing up for dinners at night and down during the days. These are all still in constant rotation in my closet.
