When we refreshed our home earlier this year, I decided to “Martha Stewart” as much as my mudroom/office & kitchen as possible. Growing up in the 90’s meant my homemaking idol was Martha (as so many of these posts and my business would indicate, not to mention my visit to the tag sale at her house), with the overly organized, styled and the most beautifully staged photos of all time. (R.I.P. Martha Stewart Living Magazine). Martha loves utilitarian spaces and so do I.

I’ve spend the last couple of weeks getting our kitchen, hearth room and mudroom/office back together, organizing the heck out of everything – and making them pretty and functional, the best of both worlds.
JSH Tablets & Home Organizing Essentials

Our Tablets have been staples in our home since I introduced them 10 years ago. They usually live in the kitchen drawer and on my office desk. I wanted to create a visual spot in our house that was more like a central command with our at a glance Weekly Schedule, Grocery List and spot for notes (using our new short Stripe Tablet) and updates. Because this wall peeks over the dutch door in our mudroom into our kitchen/hearth room, I wanted to make sure it looked tidy and not too distracting.

Our best-selling tablet is our Market Tablet for grocery list making. It makes a great gift for friends who also wish they were Martha.

We love all these Tablets and they really do keep us organized. I am hoping that having them front and center for everyone to see, it will keep all of us in the loop as we come and go – and I’m looking forward to leaving little notes.
The Weekly Planner Tablet is perfect to list out the week at a glance. I fill in what our plan for dinner is each night and map out the week by time slots.

I had created these Linen Inspiration Boards to hang in the office section of our mudroom (full tour, here), so I made a matching version for this spot. It was incredibly easy process. I used Foam Sheet Insulation (Lowes) that I cut to size. It comes as a 24″ square and I cut it to 18×24″. I covered it used linen fabric (leftover from a shop project) using an automatic staple gun. I bought this when I was recovering the ottoman in our Hearth Room (photos, here) and have found so many other ways to use it since. Highly recommend.

I created a video of the DIY here, but the process is pretty self explanatory. The brass labels elevate everything and I love how it gives it a more custom look. I attached the tablets with brass tacks pushed through the paperboard on the back of each tablet.
