June is a highlight month at our house. Everything in our yard is looking its best. I thought I’d document it before the brutal July/August temps strike. We do everything in our yard ourselves from plantings to mowing and mulching. I love outdoor projects, so I prefer to tinker, work and dig rather than hire it out – and it is a great workout. My ultimate happy place.
I try to save a day every week to head to the garden center and peruse what is new/in bloom. I’m definitely a novice gardener, but I love it. I’ll do a tour of the School House garden next week, an entirely different beast where we grow flowers, herbs and vegetables.
I use mostly greens, whites and silver in our yard with small touches of lavender. I used to feel guilty (and boring) until someone at the garden center (seeing all of the white flowers in my car…) said that I must have a “Moon Garden” because white flowers look so magical at night. Now I embrace my whites and have loved the addition of silvers this year in the form of dusty miller and cabbages.
Love the soft silver blue hues of the cabbages and dusty miller. I may add some lavender to these boxes to give some height. I like to give myself a reason to go to the nursery every week, so I don’t do all of my plantings at once.
I’ve added some baskets to our exterior this year and I’m just obsessed.
Now to the backyard…
I created these dahlia beds this year in one of the only sunny-ish spots in our yard. We are growing about 50 out at the school house, but I wanted to have some I could watch daily at home, too.
Our back porch is very cozy and lush with ferns + our new Outdoor Pillows (in my shop here).
Linens ready for dinner, can be found here.
