Earlier this year we refreshed a good portion of our house with new paint, hardware, lighting and decor. We completed our addition and renovation 10 years ago, and while I still thought of it as our “new house” it had started to show some wear and tear, especially in the kitchen since we use it so heavily.
Our kitchen is located in a large, open space that encompasses our hearth room and dining area. I wanted to add some coziness to the big room by warming up the paint and adding more millwork in the form of picture frame moldings and built-ins.

Paint : In the kitchen, we refreshed the paint on the cabinets, walls, trim and beams. Everything in this large room is painted the same Benjamin Moore Carington Beige in Satin. The ceiling is the same shade at 50% in flat.
Hardware : I have always loved the Furinture base of our cabinetry, so I leaned in and selected Furinture style bail hinge pulls from Classic Brass for the baking counter and our linen storage. We have the tiniest 3/4″ knob pulls that I selected against the advice of our sales representative that told me they would be way too small. I love them and am so glad I went with my gut. I chose bar style pulls for the island and on each side of the range and I love how they’ve mixed in together.
The finish is Revere Tarnished Brass, that has a hand-applied waxed finish that will age overtime. It should darken around the edges a bit more, but show the soft brass patina near the center with use. It looks a little too new right now, so I’m anxious for some of the aging to begin. If our lanterns prove anything, they will darken in no time, as we have to constantly polish the lanterns that have hung in here for the last ten years.
Paint : Cabinets, Walls, Trim & Beams : Benjamin Moore, Carrington Beige in Satin
Hardware : Classic Brass in Revere Tarnished Brass
Brass Lanterns : Cape Cod Lantern Company, Concord
Barstools : Ballard, originally black but we (spray!) painted a flat khaki
